Hi, I’m Toby. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

Toby Colton a.k.a. Orit Chava
What’s in a name?
My pseudonym, Orit Chava, was given to me late in life by a spiritual leader.  It represents the beginning of my journey as an artist, and so all of my paintings, except for the earliest, are signed with this name.

About the Artist
I discovered my passion for art after a full career in banking and raising children.  As my children immersed themselves in art, I began to uncover the artistic abilities that run through three generations of my family.  While my experiences range over a wide variety of media, my chosen medium is acrylic.
My first work focused on the traditional - still-lifes, landscapes, and abstracts.  The impetus to paint a Spiritual Portrait came while I was providing hospice care for my mother.  I captured Laura's energy, intellect and passion in a way that no traditional portrait could ever achieve.  I connect intuitively with my subjects to bring their essence and message to the canvas.
I am also a founding member of Griffin Gallery Fine Art, a twelve-member, artist-owned gallery in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
